a good dream Good idea for a Hot Topic this one. I imagine this is going to be a popular answer on here, but I would definitely pay to support development of a new Elite game. In fact I would quite happily support any decent space combat game down the lines of Wing Commander, X- wing, Starlancer, Privateer or EVE Online, preferably developed on consoles too as there is hardly any (Project Sylpheed and dark Star one being the only two I can think of). Or a game like Star Trek: Legacy, that had more missions and co-op campaigns. also HD PlayStation 3/Xbox 360 remastered versions of the PlayStation 2 Ace Combat games. I would also happily put funds into making our much sought after Han Solo simulator, or how about a Stargate game that played like Mass Effect? Ooh,or an HD/60 frames per second remastered version of the original 3DO Need for Speed game, or a road game like that. Or The run, but with Forza’s handling and physics. I better start saving. Ah, who am I kidding. one can dream I suppose… Spartas Edge Strings attached to be perfectly honest I am not sure if I would ever pledge money in advance for a game. It does seem very risky, however there are a few possibilities I might consider: 1. Makai Kingdoms 2. In my eyes Makai Kingdoms is the best game Nippon Ichi has made outside the Disgaea franchise. Sure, I prefer the Disgaea games but Makai Kingdoms represents a different avenue I would like them to explore further. Valkyria Chronicles is one of the best games of this generation and is of a similar remit. If Sega can make something that brilliant then surely the strategy role-playing masters can produce something legendary. 2. Skies of Arcadia 2. This one is a little more difficult. I loved the original but I am less trusting of Sega to do it justice with a sequel. They have repeatedly disappointed me with Sonic so this would need to be given the conditionality that Skies of Arcadia 2 was either made by the Valkyria Chronicles team or made externally by the Xenoblade Chronicles team. (The later would undoubtedly make it a Wii U exclusive, which is probably a good fit for the series). 3. Majora’s Mask 3D/ probably the best Zelda I have not completed. However, given the amount of Nintendo games I buy I feel I have already pledged them a fair bit of cash. I would also hate to force them to remake a game if it stopped them reinventing a genre or even gaming as a whole. In all honestly I think it is probably best just to let Nintendo decide what Nintendo should focus on. PazJohnMitch Final closure there are probably a few dream games that I would be willing to back, but the one I want most is a final Legacy of Kain game. I would gladly lay down RRP as a pre-order, but with one single caveat – the story must end, rather than leaving the fans hanging for nine years. Joseph Dowland The pledge is ready many thanks for using my idea for this week’s Hot-Topic, though I suspect I was just the first to get in with it! anyway, here is my submission: If I could get a Kickstarter/Inbox magic combo going, I’d direct it hadouken style towards Eidos: get Tom Hall and his old Ion Storm friends together and get them to do a remake/sequel to Anachronox. It’s a rare game that gets its emotion and humour hooks into me, but Anachronox is there like a head crab. The visuals are dated (still very playable, but Quake II engine!) so I’d like it redone with a graphic novel visual style, a bit like Borderlands. my £100 pledge for the remake and sequel is ready to go! (Though I’d want a mention in the credits for that, as well as the games!) AriochMT PS: thanks again GC, and I hope your email inbox doesn’t implode due to the sheer mass of Shenmue III requests! The final frontier This may be super obscure for all, but anyone else remember those Star Trek: Starfleet Command games on the PC back in the day? They were flawed but in my mind nothing has come closer to a really fun starship simulator, not even Bridge Commander. Kickstarter/Inbox magic do your thing! also Star Wars: Jedi Outcast/Academy, there hasn’t been a great lightsabre sim since. Mark Convey The principle of the thing I’m not the most ardent fan of point and click adventures but I’ve pledged $15 to Double Fine’s Kickstarter campaign to secure a copy via Steam when it’s released. I love the idea of helping to fund the development of a title by Tim Schafer. I don’t know how willing I would be to do this for an unknown developer but the possibilities of this type of funding are endless. once Kickstarter rolls out worldwide we might just see Shenmue III being part funded in this way! big lizafish (gamertag) List of demands a Ron Gilbert point and click adventure, and maybe a Chris Avellone isometric role-playing game! my third choice has to be an utter fantasy to stop it becoming reality. Remember that head-tracking demo from Johhny Chung Lee? Well all game consoles now have some method of tracking head movements. I want that in my game. all efforts should be used to keep the lag as low as possible, even if these means sacrificing graphic quality.
I want Joss Whedon working closely with Tim Schafer and Tom Hall to make a first person role-playing game based on Firefly. there would of course be a space-trading element to the game. and there would definitely be absolutely no doubt about whether Captain Mal would shoot first, even if you play through the game a second time. The single-player or split screen co-op campaign must be over 50 hours long, and the multiplayer massively multiplayer online game set at the time of the Unification War must be subscription free. and Jeff Minter has to be there to add hallucinogenic effects. Frank Standard price Wow! a Hot Topic that is essentially dedicated to Shenmue III (and its ilk, Elite, etc). I would donate £60 towards the funding of Yu Suzuki’s Shenmue III and what I would expect in return is to get a copy of the game (without paying for it again) a special edition would be nice but hey I’ll just be happy if it gets made and I finally get to play it, I’d also pay £40 for Shenmue I and II to be ported to the PlayStation 3. not with updated graphics per say as the games still look gorgeous today but maintaining the art style already depicted, so just a spit and polish. for Okami 2, I would pay £40. It would have to carry on from where the original Okami left off, whilst it wasn’t a cliffhanger or anything but the story clearly left room for a ‘what did they do next?’ sequel. Essentially I’d pay the ‘standard’ price of a game direct to a developer provided they actually made the game and gave me a copy in return, naturally I’d expect them to sell it to everybody else who didn’t pony up the dough. Oni-Samurai (PSN ID) PS: I refuse to say (SEN ID) it just doesn’t sound right!PPS: £40 for Legacy of Kain too… could go on and on.PPS: Alright I will. a Bleach game that combines SoulCalibur style fighting with open world style exploration elements and lots of story, no Dynasty Warriors clone nor annual tiny improvement sequels like the Dragon Ball Z franchise has become.PPPS: I’m ‘that guy’ who came up with WHC, but nobody remembers me by ID. Show me the love. GC: Okami already has a sequel – Okamiden on the DS.
